Methodology
How the archive is built.
What we value, where the numbers come from, and how a valuation earns its place.
Why
Luxury resale has a data problem. Sold prices are scattered across marketplaces, asking prices are mistaken for market value, and nobody grades condition the same way twice. So the number you find depends on where you looked and how long you spent. The archive exists to bring that information together into one independently verified valuation per piece, graded the same way every time.
What
A Luxy Archives valuation holds a piece's verified resale value in three conditions, what sellers are currently asking, its current retail price, and its original retail price with the year, where that can be documented. A verdict is an editorial call built on the same data, dated and kept. Reviews live on our channel. Verified values and dated verdicts live here.
How
Six standards. Every valuation in the archive meets all six.
The exact piece.
Every sale is confirmed as the same model, size and material before it counts. A sale is excluded only for being the wrong item, never for its price.
Cross-checked across independent sources.
Sales are drawn from multiple verified resale sources, never one. We publish the standard, not the supplier list.
Graded by a person.
A person grades and signs off every valuation and every verdict. No condition is graded, no number set, and no verdict issued by anything else.
At least ten verified sales.
That is the standard for a valuation. When a condition has fewer recent sales, we widen the window or draw from the nearest condition, and the valuation says so.
Asking prices are shown, never used.
Current listings appear for contrast. They are not part of the math.
Re-verified on a quarterly cycle.
Every valuation is checked against current sold data so the number you see is the number the market is paying now.
HOW A RANGE IS READ
Low is the bottom quartile of verified sales. Typical is the median. High is the top quartile. No gut adjustments.
HOW WE GRADE
Like New. Minimal to no visible wear. Includes unworn and new-with-tags pieces.
Honest, even wear from normal use. Structure, shape, and hardware intact.
Visible wear, marks, or hardware wear. Structurally sound and usable.
HOW WE REACH A VERDICT
A verdict is an editorial call on a piece a buyer can choose today, made the same way every time. The order never changes:
- 1Our own sold data. What the piece retains against its retail price, by condition.
- 2Retail price and the house's pricing history.
- 3Liquidity. How often it sells and how long it takes.
- 4Availability and demand.
- 5Production status.
- 6Materials and construction.
- 7Design longevity.
Every verdict is dated and kept in the archive so it can be checked later. A change of view is a new dated verdict, never an edit. Before a piece has sold data, Heart Buy is the only positive call available. The six verdicts are defined on the Verdicts page and in our Editorial Standards.
